Artist : Christophe Guérin
Dancer : Louis-Clément Da Costa
L’Atelier – kunst(spiel)raum launches its first design exhibition with Christophe Guérin, a young French designer of ideas. He is a fresh brain, driven on the conceptual aspects of design features accompanied by real material research.
Guérin’s current preocupation is the creation of a Structural Alphabet, dealing with, upon the philosopher Saussure, writing, speach, thoughts and gesture. This research was made in collaboration with other artists around the concept of gesture in the space and the perception of this movement.
A Dance Performance will mark the idea of gesture during the vernissage. A gesture, understood as a sign filled by an intention, differing from the movement, seen as physical state, a kind of rythmical vacuum.
The choreography of Louis-Clément da Costa -based in Brussels, currently working with swiss choreographer Gilles Jobin among several other international projects, will show the construction of a (con)text where errors have their place. Seen as an occurrence of chance or a conscient change, wouldn’t those variations offer a scene to other possibilities? The two concepts of ‘signifié’ (concept) and ‘signifier’ (material) will also be questioned: can one element change the whole and - on another level, can the whole determine a gesture ?
